Champion jockey James McDonald is not one to make outlandish statements about horses so when he says one could be an Everest prospect — take note. On Saturday, McDonald has another strong hand for the feature Rosehill meeting that is headlined by three Group 2 races — the Theo Marks Stakes, Run To The Rose Stakes and Sheraco Stakes. Vin Cox, Godolphin’s managing director, said the James Cummings-trained Bivouac is their sprinter of choice for The Everest on October 17, while stablemate Trekking is also being aimed at the race.
“We have locked in Bivouac with Glen Boss to ride,’’ Cox said.
“Bivouac will go straight into The Everest without another run although he will probably have a barrier trial on Friday week.’’
Trekking, a third placegetter in The Everest last year, ran well when resuming for a close second in the Moir Stakes last Friday and Cox revealed Godolphin is considering offers from Everest slot-holders.
“We have had interest in Trekking and we are still evaluating the offers, considering the opportunity of leaving what could potentially be a weak Group 1 (Manikato Stakes, Moonee Valley, October 24) on the table,” Cox said.
“It’s not cut and dried, but the offers are good and it’s a matter of going through them with the slot-holders.’’

Bivouac is the seventh confirmed starter for The TAB Everest after Nature Strip (TAB), Classique Legend (Bon Ho), Gytrash (Inglis), Tofane (Yulong), Farnan (Aquis) and Behemoth (The Star).
Meanwhile, one-time Everest hopeful Alligator Blood remains on track for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on October 31 after pleasing trainer David Vandyke with a strong gallop between races at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Owner Allan Endresz also revealed Alligator Blood’s Sydney spring campaign will be extended to include the $1 million The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange on November 21.
“The Gong is definitely on our program, David is excited about going back to the area he grew up in,’’ Endresz said.Mac Everest
“So, our plan is to run in the Silver Eagle (Randwick, October 10), then Golden Eagle and The Gong.’’
#Golden Slipper winner Farnan will get an opportunity to prove his The Everest campaign is back on track when he has an exhibition gallop with Golden Eagle hopeful Dawn Passage between races on Randwick’s Kensington course on Wednesday.
Farnan suffered a training setback earlier this month but co-trainer Adrian Bott said the colt has recovered quickly and galloped brilliantly last Saturday morning.
